Sands China Rewards Staff with Bonus and Salary Hike for 2025

Sands China has announced a new initiative to reward its employees with both a discretionary bonus and a salary increase, underscoring its commitment to team member recognition. As stated in a press release cited by Macau Business, eligible full-time employees will receive a bonus equivalent to one month’s salary on January 27, 2025. This initiative applies to non-management staff who have worked with the company for at least one year. Employees with shorter tenures—provided they joined before October 1, 2024—will receive prorated bonuses.

Additionally, a salary increase will be implemented beginning March 1, 2025. Employees earning up to MOP 16,000 per month will see their wages rise by MOP 600, reflecting a 3.8% to 5% increment. Those with salaries above MOP 16,000 will benefit from a 2.5% increase. This adjustment will impact 99% of the company’s 27,000 employees, marking Sands China as the first among Macau’s gaming operators to implement a wage increase alongside year-end bonuses.

Performance-Based Bonuses for Management

For management-level employees, the discretionary bonus will vary based on their performance. The company’s Management Incentive Plan and financial outcomes will also factor into their compensation. These performance-based rewards aim to align individual contributions with the company’s overall achievements.

Grant Chum, CEO and executive director of Sands China, expressed his gratitude for the hard work of the team in 2024, saying, “As we look back at another successful year for Sands China, we can all be proud of what we have achieved together as a team.”

Chum highlighted several milestones, such as the launch of The Londoner Grand, upgrades to The Venetian Arena, and participation in revitalization projects, including cultural initiatives and the Rua Das Estalagens entrepreneurship program. Sands China also hosted major MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events, international sports competitions, and cultural performances.

Industry-Wide Initiatives

Sands China’s announcement comes as other Macau-based gaming operators also recognize their employees’ efforts. Earlier in the week, MGM, Wynn, Melco, Galaxy, and SJM confirmed discretionary bonuses for their teams. However, Sands China’s simultaneous implementation of a salary increase distinguishes it from its peers.

Chum also emphasized Sands China’s recognition in the global business landscape. The company earned a Top 1% ranking in S&P Global’s ESG assessment and it was also recognized on the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), showcasing its leadership in environmental, social, and governance initiatives. Additionally, the announcement highlighted the firm’s multi-year partnership with the NBA to host The NBA China Games in Macau, further cementing its role in promoting international sports events. By announcing these measures, Sands China reinforces its commitment to recognizing employee contributions while continuing its leadership within the industry.
